The Baby Safe Sleep Coalition is proud to announce the start of another safe sleep education project for parents of newborns, this time in conjunction with Rochester Regional Health Systems’ Unity Hospital.

Families who have infants born at Unity Hospital starting in January 2015 receive enhanced safe sleep education from hospital staff and a take-home kit provided by the Baby Safe Sleep coalition and funded through a $12,000 grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation.

The Safe Sleep Kit includes education materials, a Halo sleep sack and a Sleep Baby Safe & Snug board book. Parents receive the safe sleep message immediately before the period of highest risk for unsafe sleep deaths: newborn to 3 months of age. This follows a similar program at RGHS Rochester General Hospital that has provided over 1,100 kits to parents since August 2014.
